CLASS TITLE:

Instrumental Accompanist/Coach

 

REPORTS TO:

Director and/or Principal

 

BASIC

FUNCTION:

 

Serve as instrumental accompanist in various elementary, middle, or secondary band, orchestra, choral, dance, and/or drama programs. Assist each participating  student to achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of   discipline and practice, and an increased level of self-esteem. Services are provided   on a temporary/seasonal basis and funded by the school.

 

REPRESENTATIVE

DUTIES:

 

Promote band, orchestra, chorus, dance, and/or drama in the schools and community.

 

Collaboratewith the director of the program as needed.

 

Serve as an instrumental accompanist as needed.

 

Teach individual fundamental skills, self-control, good character, and the   importance of teamwork.

 

Supervise assigned students immediately before, during, and after practices,   performances, and required travel.

 

Provide students an appropriate role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.

 

Maintain professional conduct when representing the district during school functions and activities based upon the Clark County Public Schools Employee Handbook.

 

Conduct learning experiences with small groups of students.

 

Oversee safety conditions, proper maintenance, and care of facility and equipment.

 

Perform related duties assigned by the director and/or principal.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND

ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of:

 

Fundamentals of band, orchestra, chorus, dance, and/or drama.

 

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

 

 

Ability to:

 

Play the appropriate instrument.

 

Work with all types of students.

 

Understand and follow oral and written directions.

 

Read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, policies, and procedures.

 

Meet schedules and timelines.

 

Train and provide work direction to others.

 

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

 

Lift up to 50 pounds.

 

EDUCATION AND

EXPERIENCE:

 

A valid teaching certificate in the   state of Kentucky, or any combination equivalent to: high school diploma,   G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as   required by Kentucky law, or 64 semester hours from an accredited college or   university.
