CLASS TITLE: Pre-School Routing Coordinator/Dispatcher

REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Organize, plan, direct and implement operations and activities involved in Pre-School transportation, communicate community representatives, local officials and the general public. Perform dispatching and clerical support duties for the transportation department and training of bus drivers/bus monitors as needed.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

Organize plan, direct and implement operations and activities involved in Pre-School student transportation to assure safe and efficient transportation services.

Plan and approve Pre-School transportation route and bus top locations in cooperation with the Transportation Supervisor.

Communicate with parents, community representatives, local officials and the general public in order to promote positive relationships.

Receive and resolve issues concerning transportation, also monitors the situations to ensure that resolutions have been implemented.

Maintain current knowledge of all routes to assure timely service.

Assist in the training of bus drivers/bus monitors as needed, also assists in the planning and implementation of in service meetings.

Assist in the selection and evaluation of bus drivers/bus monitors.

Drive buses of varying sizes and complexity over designated routes in accordance with time schedules.

Maintain an up to date listing of school buses and assigned drivers and monitors.

Assures ready access to the up to date route sheets for each scheduled route.

Assure that each scheduled route is appropriately covered by utilizing available bus drivers and bus monitors.

Operate two-way radio base stations and paging systems.

Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of:

 

Safe driving practices and methods.

Principals, methods, techniques and strategies for the train- ing of school bus drivers/bus monitors.

Principles, methods and procedures related to a pupil trans- portation system.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Basis record keeping techniques.

Operation of two-way radios.

Telephone techniques and etiquette.

Pre-School federal and State regulations.

Ability to:

 

Organize, plan and implement Pre-School transportation.

Coordinate and conduct bus driver/bus monitor training and safety programs.

Maintain accurate records.

Understand and follow oral and written directions.

Attend meetings and remain current concerning rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Work cooperatively with others.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Any combination equivalent to high school diploma, GED Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a GED as required by Kentucky law and three years of experience in the operation of a school bus. Must have a minimum of one year experience in radio dispatching.


OTHER REQUIRMENTS: Must have a valid Kentucky CDL driver’s license.
