CLASS TITLE:

  

Teacher – Elementary

  

REPORTS TO: Principal

  

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

Teaches content assigned by the principal, which can include reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, and health to pupils in a classroom, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board.

 

Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state law and administrative procedures of the District.

 

Develops daily lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

 

Translates lesson plans into learning experiences that address the diverse learning needs of the pupils to best utilize the available time for instruction.

 

Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation by maintaining lesson plans. These plans plus any instructions are to be used by the substitute teacher when the teacher is absent. When an absence is anticipated by the teacher, the teacher shall leave his/her lesson plan(s), and instructions for the substitute teacher.

 

Establishes and maintains standards of self and pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

 

Evaluates pupil’s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.

 

Communicates with parents through report cards, e-mails, notes, conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program.

 

Collaborates with specialists, support teachers and special education teachers to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

  

Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.

 

Maintains professional competence through professional development activities provided by the District and other self-selected professional growth activities.

 

Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop a professional growth plan.

 

Maintains required inventory records.

 

Incorporates technology into instruction and facilitates student use of technology according to the District’s Acceptable Use Policy.

 

Is responsible for supervising pupils in and out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.

 

Administers group tests in accordance with District testing program and uses the results in subsequent lesson planning.

 

Participates in faculty committees and in sponsorship of pupil activities.

 

Maintains all grades in manner chosen by the principal.

 

Performs other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the Principal.

 

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Holds bachelor’s or higher degree and the required Kentucky certificate for the assigned position

 

Has demonstrated the ability to work effectively with students.

 

Has demonstrated the ability to communicate with students, parents and faculty effectively.

CLASS TITLE: Middle School Teacher

 

REPORTS TO: Principal

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

To help students acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will contribute to their educational and social development.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

The teacher cooperates, as requested, in the development of annual objectives for the school and plans an instructional program that incorporates these objectives.

 

The teacher incorporates learner objectives compatible with the subject, grade level, established curriculum and middle school student needs. The teacher assesses his/her instructional program to determine its effectiveness.

 

The teacher maintains an effective program by establishing and maintaining an adequate knowledge of subject areas and child growth and development of middle school students.

 

The teacher ensures that the instruction, materials and procedures are appropriate for the subject being taught and for the needs of the students. The teacher sees that application and practice are used by students to acquire or reinforce a concept or skill. The teacher encourages students, parents and others to become actively involved in daily instructional activities.

 

The teacher assesses individual student abilities to devise techniques that will accommodate student differences in rates of learning, styles of learning and ability levels. These techniques may involve long-term or short-term grouping or the differentiating of materials and equipment.

 

The teacher monitors individual student achievement on a continuous basis, employs a variety of teaching methods to meet middle school student needs, and provides remediation as required.

The teacher uses professional classroom management techniques to maintain a suitable instructional environment.

 

The teacher shows respect for the dignity and worth of all students, values cultural differences, and maintains communication with parents.

 

The teacher accepts responsibility for non-instructional duties as may be assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, Board, or other administrative personnel. The teacher complies with laws, rules, and regulations established to carry out the school program.

CLASS TITLE:

 

Teacher-High School

 

REPORTS TO: Principal

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

To help students acquire those knowledge’s, skills and attitudes that society feels will contribute to their development into mature, able and responsible men and women.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location at the times designated using courses of study developed by the faculty and approved by the Board.

 

Works with faculty colleagues to develop instructional programs that will meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.

  

Maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

  

Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation by maintaining lesson plans. These plans plus any instructions are to be used by the substitute teacher when the teacher is absent. When an absence is anticipated by the teacher, the teacher shall leave his/her lesson plan (s), along with instructions for the substitute teacher, with the Principal/designee due to the fact that an absence may be of an emergency nature, the teacher shall leave emergency lesson plans with the Principal/designee.

 

Guides the learning process through the translation of Board approved curriculum goals and develops clear learning objectives to meet the goals.

  

Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and learning styles of the individual or groups involved.

 

Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

  

Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports to students and reports to parents as required.

  

Assesses the learning needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of District specialists as required.

  

Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  

Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records and safeguards their confidentiality as required by law, District policy and administrative procedures.

 

Plays a supportive role in implementing all policies and rules governing student conduct for the classroom and school-related activities as set forth by the Student Code of Conduct.

 

Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.

 

Strives to maintain and improve professional competence by participating in planning/implementing professional development education activities.

 

Attends staff meetings, serves on SBDM committees and participates in the sponsorship of pupil activities.

 

Maintains a professional awareness of current literature related to assignment, including working knowledge of state and federal law, Board policy and administrative regulations.

  

Performs other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the Principal.
