QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a high school diploma or GED and be 25 years of age, OR Must have a high school diploma or GED and, if less than 25 years of age, must be enrolled in a teacher preparation program.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide classroom coverage as assigned when the certified teacher is absent. The substitute must be confident in teaching a wide range of developmental age groups from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Reports to the building principal or school designee upon arrival at the school building

Uses initiative to solve problems when they arise and is willing to make decisions based on the best interest of students

Maintains a positive attitude

Build active, collaborative classroom programs that encourage problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, and develop a sense of classroom community and trust

Differentiate instruction and integrate learning into all educational settings

Can take over classes with little advance notice.

Improvise lessons in emergencies where the teacher is unable to provide lesson plans

Communicating regularly with other teachers with regard to planning, assessment, parent and community contact, grade level planning meetings

Follow through with classroom issues such as discipline, expectations, and routines.

Communicate with parents when issues arise and as appropriate.

Communicate with administrators or Team Coordinators when issues arise.

Communicating with other school colleagues to promote and establish integrative links and/or awareness

Take an active role in behavioral management 

Attend and constructively contribute in staff meetings and professional development activities 

Assist in supervision during student breaks 

Maintaining up-to-date records of assessment, attendance, planning, reports, conferences, and communication with parents, as necessary 

Establishing links with the parent community to ensure that parents are well informed about student progress

Assisting, as required, in the development of curricular materials

Participating in and assisting with school events as needed

Perform Ad Hoc duties that are not listed above

Demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance. 

Maintain an appropriate professional appearance.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
